Stafford

The historic market town of Stafford is situated along the River Sow, with a network of smaller, local tributaries and watercourses flowing through Stafford including the River Penk that joins the River Sow to the east of town.

Areas of Stafford regularly experience flooding from the several watercourses that flow around, and through, the town, as well as issues from surface water flooding that can affect properties and roads. The Risk Management Authorities for the area, including the Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, and Staffordshire County Council Lead Local Flood Authority and Highways Authority, are continuing to work collaboratively with communities to undertake investigations and flood risk management initiatives to help reduce flood risk and build resilience within the area. This includes the installation of Property Flood Resilience measures on properties at risk from flooding, and the implementation of new water level sensors.
